Gert-Johan Coetzee is inviting students to apply for the Gert-Johan Coetzee Fashion Bursary, for the 2024 academic year.

The bursary will be awarded for studies at the North West School of Design, to pursue Fashion Design studies for 3 years. Studies will commence on 31 January 2024.

The North West School of Design is based in Klerksdorp, and is an internationally accredited fashion school, which has just celebrated 25 years of training top designers and fashion professionals in South Africa.

MORE ABOUT THE GERT-JOHAN COETZEE BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED, OBLIGATIONS & SELECTION

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: 3 years of tuition fees at the North West School of Design and a Bernette sewing machine – totalling at R204 900. (The bursary will NOT provide cover for stationery, personal laptop, accommodation and meals).

Bursary recipients will be required to complete 2 internship programmes each year at the Gert Johan Coetzee studios, during holidays.

The North West School of Design will announce 3 finalists on 31 December 2023, who will then have a telephone or video interview with Gert Johan Coetzee. The bursary winner will then be announced on 5 January 2024.

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

• You must be a South African citizen
• You must be currently in Matric (in 2023) or have completed Matric with a Diploma exemption

  Applicants must follow these steps to apply:
  Step 1: Record and upload a video to social media, by following these instructions:

  • The video must be of yourself, dressed in your favourite style and describing your style, or showcasing one of your latest design sketches
  • The video must include who you are and where you are from
  • The video must tell us more about your style or your design sketch
  • The video must be a maximum of 1 minute long
  • The video must be uploaded to your social media accounts (Tik-tok and Instagram) and must use the following hashtags: #nwsd , #gert , #gertbursary2023 , #fashiondesign , #fashionbursary , #fashionschool
  • The video must use these tags: @nwsdfashion and @gertjohancoetzee
