Government Bursary Programme

The Head of Department of the Gauteng Provincial Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs hereby invites registered/admitted under/post graduate students to apply for bursaries to undertake full-time studies in the academic year. CoGTA is offering 20 bursaries.

6 bursaries of which are earmarked for dependants of military veterans (confirmation of registration in this regards must be attached).

Applicants must pursue full-time under/post graduate studies in the following fields:

  • Corporate Communications,
  • Development Planning
  • Engineering and Town Planning Infrastructure Development related studies
  • Finance and Accounting and
  • Governance and Risk,
  • Human Resource Management,
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Inter-Governmental Relation,
  • Law,
  • Municipal Governance,
  • Office Management and
  • Policy and Research

The Bursary covers:

Tuition and registration fees, prescribed books and/or study material and is limited to the maximum value of R 30,000.00 per learner, for the academic year.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35, completed grade 12, applicants must reside in Gauteng, already registered or in possession of admission letter from an accredited institution within Gauteng Province.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Selection of successful candidates will be strictly based on academic merit.

Applicants are expected to study at an accredited South African tertiary institution within Gauteng.

It is the student’s responsibility to seek/obtain admission with a tertiary institution.

The bursary is for post/under graduate qualifications of no less than 360 NQF Credits.

Successful candidates will be required to enter into a Bursary Contract.

CoGTA has no obligation to employ the bursary holder on completion of the qualification.

Applicants should not hold concurrent bursaries or financial study assistance from other organisations/institutions.

The Department is committed to Employment Equity; therefore preference will be given to candidates from disadvantaged groups.

Candidates in the Affirmative Action categories are particularly encouraged to apply.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Failure to provide any of the required documents in a manner that is prescribed will result in disqualification of the application and as such deemed non-responsive.

Pre-selected applicants will be required to provide parents’/guardians proof of income.

ABOUT THE BURSAR

Kaplan Centre Bursaries – The Isaac and Jessie Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies and Research was a gift to the University of Cape Town (UCT), named in the honour of Robert and Mendel Kaplan’s parents. The Kaplan Centre was founded in 1980 and is currently situated in the Rachel Bloch House.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The Kaplan Centre Bursaries are intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students, to take up studies and research.
Undergraduate studies: Bursaries will be awarded to students whose studies focus on Jewish, Hebrew Language and Literature. Bursary grants must be used to cover the cost of tuition fees at UCT.

Postgraduate studies: Bursaries will also be awarded to postgraduate/ research students focused on Jewish studies. Bursary grants must be used to cover the cost of tuition fees at UCT OR travel costs OR running costs OR other research related expenses at UCT.

ABOUT THE BURSAR

Johannesburg Water Bursary – Johannesburg Water (SOC) Ltd was founded in 2001, owned by the City of Johannesburg. The main purpose is to provide clean and safe water and sanitation for its some 3.8 million residents.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

Bursaries will be awarded within the following Water industry-related fields of study:

  • Civil Engineering (BSc)
  • Electrical Engineering (National Diploma)
  • Mechanical Engineering (National Diploma)
  • Communications/ Journalism/ Marketing/ Public Relations (Degree)

The bursary award will cover the following study expenses: tuition fees, accommodation at university residence and a cash allowance. Bursary recipients will also be given the opportunity to undertake paid vacation work.

On completion of their studies, students will be required to undertake employment with Johannesburg Water (SOC) Ltd.

ELIGIBILITY – Johannesburg Water Bursary

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • Students who are studying or intend on study full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study at a recognised tertiary institution,
  • Strong academic performance,
  • Proven financial need.

*Preference will be given to female students, those with disabilities and those who have been previously disadvantaged.

ABOUT THE BURSAR

Sector Education and Training Authority or SETA is an industry bodies established in 2000 by the Minister of Labour. SETA is made up of employers, government departments, trade unions and bargaining councils from each industrial sector. There are 23 SETA’s across South Africa, FoodBev SETA being one of them.
FoodBev SETA aims to facilitate and award skills development in the Food and Beverage Manufacturing industry by way of bursary programmes.

ABOUT THE BURSARY FoodBev SETA Bursary

FoodBev SETA are offering bursary awards to full time students who are enrolled in University, studying towards a Master’s degree or PhD within the Food and Beverage Manufacturing industry. The bursary value is up to a maximum of R50 000 and will be awarded to studies in line with critical and scarce skills.

ABOUT THE BURSAR – Department of Arts and Culture Bursary

Department of Arts and Culture Bursary – The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) are aimed at ensuring that the arts sector contribute to social cohesion and economic growth of the country.
One of the ways in which the DAC are preserving and expanding the arts, culture and heritage sector in South Africa, is by way of their bursary programme – funding deserving students who wish to pursue studies in heritage related programmes.
Bursaries are awarded to 30 students each year, to the maximum value of R70 000 per student.

FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship South Africa 2021

ABOUT THE BURSAR

Lauritz “Laurie” Dippenaar co-founded FirstRand Limited, along with GT Ferreira in 1977, a financial service provider organisation in South Africa. A self-made millionaire banker; investor and businessman, Dippenaar is now the former CEO of the FirstRand financial Group and currently serves the organisation in a non-executive capacity. He is also the Chairman of OUTsurance, Momentum and Discovery and is a qualified Chartered Accounted.
Dippenaar has set up a scholarship programme to help students through their tertiary education.

ABOUT THE BURSARY – Poliomyelitis Research Foundation Bursaries

This bursary programme is for international postgraduate study to a maximum value of R600 000 per annum, for a maximum duration of 2 years.

The bursary recipient will be required to return to South Africa on completion of their studies, for a minimum duration of 5 years.

ELIGIBILITY – Poliomyelitis Research Foundation Bursaries

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • Studying towards a postgraduate degree,
  • Studying outside of South Africa at any internationally recognised university,

* Preference will be given to applicants under 35 years old.
The bursary will be awarded based on the following 4 factors: academic excellence, ability to be a destiny change, leadership qualities and community involvement.

ABOUT THE BURSAR

SACTWU bursary – The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) was established in September 1989, and today are the largest trade union for the textile, clothing, footwear and leather industry.
SACTWU also manage the largest bursary fund in the trade union throughout the country. The bursary fund was initiated in 1975 and is awarded to members and their dependents

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The bursary award will pay 75% of fees (to a max of R35 000 per annum) for university students; students will be required to pick up the remainder of the costs.

Please note that students who are child dependants will be required to conduct 50 hours of community service.
 

ELIGIBILITY – SACTWU bursary

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • You are a SACTWU member/ the spouse of a SACTWU member/ a biological child of a SACTWU member/ a legally adopted child of a SACTWU member,
  • The University/ University of Technology where you are studying is registered with the National Department of Education (you can find more info here),
  • Child dependants may NOT be employed full-time,
  • Members must be paid-up by 31 July (of the previous year).

ABOUT THE BURSAR

National Arts Council of SA Bursary – The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) aim to promote the free expression of cultures in South Africa, though arts. The NAC are managed by the Department of Arts and Culture and are responsible for the development of the creative industry in the country, by awarding grants to both organisations and individuals within the arts faculty.

ABOUT THE BURSARY – National Arts Council of SA Bursary

Bursaries will be awarded to students within the Arts faculty, within the following fields:

  • Dance
  • Theatre/ Drama
  • Music
  • Multi-disciplinary
  • Visual Arts
  • Craft
  • Literature

There are 2 types of bursaries:
1) Block Institutional bursaries – for Undergraduate studies
These bursaries must be applied for by Institutional heads of department, for their undergraduate students. Applications received from student directly will not be considered

2) Individual bursaries – for Postgraduate studies
Students must apply directly to the NAC.
