Department Of Arts And Culture Kzn Funding
Department Of Arts And Culture Kzn Funding, Non-profit organisations dedicated to the conservation of arts and culture in KwaZulu-Natal can now apply for a share of almost R2 million in aid disbursed by the KZN Department of Arts and Culture. The department will allocate R1.988 million to emerging arts and culture groups through its annual Grant-in-Aid programme for the 2016/17 financial year.
The programme aims to support non-profit organisations involved in the fields of drama, dance, music, visual arts, crafts, language development, literature and mass media. These organisations must work mainly with vulnerable target groups such as women, people living with disabilities and the youth.
The department administers the funds through the KZN Arts and Culture Council, with a maximum of R60 000 being allocated per organisation. Forty-two organisations will be considered for funding.
Organisations and co-operatives must ensure that they are registered on the department’s database and meet criteria listed on the application form to qualify for the grant. The council will monitor grant recipients to ensure they use the funds correctly, making regular unannounced visits to these organisations throughout the year.
Interested organisations can collect application forms from the department’s regional offices in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith and Ulundi. Forms are also available on the department’s website. Faxed and late applications will not be accepted. The closing date for submission of applications is 15 July 2016.
“This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to boost the province’s arts and culture sector while creating job opportunities for vulnerable groups especially in rural areas. We are committed to uplifting arts and culture organisations as they make a contribution to our local economy. We urge all interested parties to make use of programmes such as this one,” said MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi.
