The Make a Difference Leadership Foundation (MAD) was established with the aim of providing opportunities to academically talented students who represent the future of South Africa. The foundation focuses on individual support and development, assisting bright students in achieving their academic goals.
To offer deserving students the necessary financial support for their studies, MAD partnered with the FEM Education Foundation NPC, resulting in the creation of the FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship program was named in honor of Mike Ilsley to recognize his dedication to education and his role as an ethical leader.
FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship 2024-2025:
The FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account a candidate’s involvement in community-related activities, future leadership potential, and strong academic record. This scholarship is specifically aimed at first and second-year South African students who are pursuing a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) qualification from an SAICA-authorized institution.
Apart from financial assistance, the FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship offers mentorship, career development, and leadership support to students.
Eligibility Criteria:
To apply for the FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship 2024-2025, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria. Failure to satisfy any of these requirements may result in the rejection of the application. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be a first or second-year student pursuing an undergraduate degree at a South African university authorized under SAICA.
- Must be studying to become a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)).
- Must have achieved an average of 70% in overall marks and at least 70% in Financial Accounting.
- Gross household income should not exceed R25,000 per month.
- Must have an excellent academic background.
- Must possess strong values and demonstrate powerful leadership skills.
- Must be a responsible individual.
- Should have involvement in community-related services.

When applying for the FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship 2024-2025, applicants are required to submit various supporting documents. Failure to submit any of the following documents may result in the rejection of the application:
- Certified copy of your ID proof.
- Certified copy of your matric certificate.
- Complete academic record, including recent results on the institution’s letterhead.
- Registration proof for the year on the institution’s letterhead.
- A motivational letter supporting your application.
- Certified copy of parents/guardian’s ID proof.
- Certified copy of parent’s death certificate in case of deceased parents.
- Certified proof of parents/guardian’s complete household income, not older than 3 months at the time of submission. This includes:
- Payslips or official letter of employment showing the income for employed parents.
- Three months of bank statements for all personal bank accounts and IRPS for the tax year for self-employed parents.
- An affidavit showing unemployment status for unemployed parents.
- Complete breakdown of your combined household gross monthly income.
- Complete breakdown of the number of people, along with their ages, residing in your household, including various details.
- If you have applied for any other scholarship or are receiving financial assistance from any other source (including NSFAS), you must submit the related documents.
