wakkerstroom music festival bursary competition fee structure 2024-2025?

The Wakkerstroom Music Festival, better known as the WMF, is focussed on making rural communities more aware of the magic that is performing and visual arts. It is also held to raise money for a bursary competition that takes place every two years.

Having started in 2010, this is a non-profit organisation and all of the proceeds go towards enabling music students with loads of talent to study music further. This good cause makes for the perfect reason to have a whole lot of fun, which is what the WMF is all about.

As a little town, Wakkerstroom is known as a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, brimming with history (thanks to its being one of the oldest towns in Mpumalanga). However, every year, the WMF hits it and transforms it into a vibrant hub of activity. As a result, it has fast earned its reputation as the centre of social and cultural life in the area.

Highlights range from jazz and piano concertos to harpsichord, cello and flute performances.

Exploring Wakkerstroom before and after the festival is always rewarding. It is a hotspot amongst birders that want to make the most out of the prolific bird life and tranquil setting to catch up with spotting and identifying a wonderful variety. Book your Wakkerstroom accommodation here.

Johannesburg is about three hours away from Wakkerstroom, making it very accessible. To avoid disappointment it is advisable to book your accommodation well in advance for this event. Visit the Wakkerstroom Accommodation pages to find guest houses, hotels and self catering places to stay and for additional info about Wakkerstroom which includes attractions, restaurants and things to do, see Wakkerstroom Info.
